EPIC Leadership
Empower, Participate, Inspire, Change
Over the past 10 weeks a group of young women have been meeting regularly as part of the EPIC Young Women’s Leadership Program. These amazing young leaders have been discussing different aspects of young women’s leadership, learning from inspiring role models, and organising the EPIC Night In. The EPIC Night In was an evening event on 25th August where the participants shared their knowledge and skills with other young women and facilitated workshops on young women’s issues and strengths. These young leaders were then involved in the planning and facilitation of the EPIC Forum on 3rd September, along with many fantastic volunteers.
Over 30 young women from across Victoria came together to hear from inspiring guest speakers and participate in creative badge making and mural workshops about violence against women and women’s strengths. The participants also identified three issues that they think are most important for young women today – representation of women in the media, self-confidence, and gender stereotypes. They then developed a declaration of commitment to action on these issues. The EPIC Young Women’s Leadership Program, both the 10 week group and the one day forum, have been very successful in providing a space for young women to talk about important issues and to develop a clear idea of their own views of young women’s leadership. Young women have had leadership opportunities within the program and have been inspired to consider their leadership potential for the future.
