Week Without Violence
Week Without Violence is an annual global YWCA event held in the 3rd week of October which encourages the community to imagine 7 days, 168 hours, 10,080 minutes, 604,080 seconds without violence.
Visit the World YWCA website for more information about this global campaign.
In 2009, the Federal Government released this report - The National Council's Plan for Australia to Reduce Violence against women and their children 2009 - 2021 . The report states that, for women in Australia, sexual assault and domestic and family violence are the most pervasive human rights violations, with nearly one in three Australian women experiencing physical violence and almost one in five women experiencing sexual violence over their lifetime. If no new actions are taken to reduce the incidence and the impact of VAW by 2021-22, the cost to the economic of violence against women and their children will reach $15.6 billion.
YWCA Victoria encourages you all to think and talk about the impact of violence next week for the Week without Violence.
