The commitment of the YWCA Victoria to affordable, safe and appropriate housing commenced in 1891 and has continued without interruption to this day.
There are few organisations able to claim such a long and proud history of housing provision.
The aim of the YWCA Victoria Housing Services is to provide safe, high quality, low cost housing, consistent with the policy of the World YWCA.
The policy of the World YWCA acknowledges the individual’s right to accessible and affordable accommodation while respecting the individual’s lifestyle choices.
Richmond House Information
General Information
YWCA Victoria owns Richmond House at 353a Church Street and has received funding through the Office of Housing to redevelop the site. The residents of Richmond House will be relocated for the duration of the redevelopment works, which will last approximately 6-9 months and during this period will continue to be supported by YWCA Victoria housing staff.
On July 21st 2010, all tenants were provided with a 120 day notice to vacate and the process of consultation around relocation needs commenced.
The redevelopment will include an upgrade of essential services and a retrofit of the existing building, which will significantly improve the amenity of the building for residents. It is expected that the project will be completed by July 2011.
