The Asista Mentoring Program endeavors to provide a positive role model, through mentoring and support, to disadvantaged young women. Asista mentors are matched to referred young women.

Young women referred to the Asista program are aged between 12 and 18, live in the North Western Metropolitan Region of Melbourne, and are clients of the Department of Human Services (DHS) Child Protection, or have been involved in the Juvenile Justice System.

These young women are considered particularly vulnerable and “at risk” due to a range of complex issues. Young women referred may be living in a residential unit, at home with one or both parents.

Asista is currently seeking new mentors.

Aims
The role of the mentor is to develop a positive, empowering relationship between two women.

Activities
Asista encourages personal development through social and recreational activities for approximately 2 – 6 hrs per fortnight and ideally encourages new experiences and opportunities for the young women.

Asista mentors are volunteers and do not have a social worker role, however, the Asista Manager is involved in joint case planning.

Please contact Eloise Brown on 03 8341 8731 if you would like more information.  If you are interested in becoming an Asista mentor please click here for more information.
