Y Gals advocate, lobby, and campaign to achieve political, social and economic equality of women. Y Gals needs your ideas, experiences, in sight, energy and research skills.

Joining Y Gals

Any woman in her 30s or younger can join Y Gals. Y Gals Clubs are active at universities, TAFE colleges and even in high schools and work places.

Forming your own Y Gals group

A Y Gals Club is created when two or more YWCA members committed to creating an equal society gather in one place to discuss ideas. Y Gals need to become members of the YWCA.

The YWCA has solid reputation in the community and its submissions are received by the Victorian and Federal government. When Y speaks, people listen.

Here at Y Gals, young women speak on issues that affect all young women. Often these issues can be controversial but the process of developing policy is in consultation with the YWCA membership. Y Gals is an important group within the YWCA committed to ensuring that young women are heard.

Y gals are politically independent

The YWCA is not affiliated with any political party. Our goal at Y gals is to raise the profile of young Victorian women and the issues that affect us, as young women.

Government departments have processes to receive public submissions, and to be heard in a modern democracy, advocacy groups need to work within the democratic framework.

Y Gals learn how to advocate effectively.

The YWCA develops policy and makes press releases, public submissions, public protests and petitions to campaign for the equality and opportunity of women.

Y Gals speak on current issues

The current issues that face young Victorian women include paid maternity leave, better pay for traditional women's jobs, good quality, affordable and accessible childcare, party drugs and violence. See Policy and Campaigns, Publications and Submissions.
