Women’s Bus Tour Tackles Racism
A bus load of women from various walks of life will be travelling to Ballarat to celebrate Australia’s cultural diversity.
The Harmony Bus Tour, organised by YWCA Victoria and the Victorian Immigrant and Refugee Women’s Coalition (VIRWC), brings women from different ethnic groups together to talk about their lives, cultures, and feelings about living in Australia.
“It is important to talk about culture and race from a woman’s point of view. Women who aren’t white cop a double blow of discrimination in our society – racism and sexism.” said Liberty Sanger, President of YWCA Victoria.
“Women we represent are confronted with prejudice every day. Only through persistent efforts can racism and sexism be eradicated. We are going to Ballarat as a follow-up to our successful Harmony Day Bus Tour earlier this year" explained Melba Marginson, Chairwoman of the VIRWC.
YWCA Victoria is the leading advocate for young Victorian women, committed to helping young women reach their full potential. The VIRWC is the peak statewide organisation advocating for the rights of women from non-English speaking backgrounds
