Join us in NEW YORK CITY!

The UN Commission on the Status of Women is the global policy body for women’s issues. Representatives of
government meet together annually in New York to discuss how to improve the status of women, watched on by
a large contingent of NGO activists. The CSW has supported the development of the Convention on the
Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and its Optional Protocol, and the
development of the 1995 Beijing Platform for Action.

The dates for CSW62 2018 are Monday 12 March to Friday 23 March. The priority theme for the Commission will
be “challenges and opportunities in achieving gender equality and the empowerment of rural women and girls”.
The Commission will also evaluate progress in the implementation of the agreed conclusions from its fortyseventh
session in 2003 on “participation in and access of women to the media, and information and
communication technologies and the impact and use as an instrument for the advancement and empowerment
of women.”

YWCA Australia will be sending a delegation of seven to nine Members to CSW62 in 2018. The delegation will
include a delegation leader who will be selected at a later date. Different types of positions are available
depending on eligibility (including YWCA Australia funded positions).
