Update on National Merger...
That’s right, YWCAs across Australia have been meeting to discuss the possibility of combining our resources, experience and ideas into one potent, national entity. We’ve been discussing this merger with the support and input of members and staff across the country and are excited about the potential of the YWCA as we look towards the future.
We’re passionate about creating a powerful, far-reaching organisation that represents the needs and experiences of women from all sorts of backgrounds, cultures and locations.
Currently, a National Constitution is in the final stages of development, and we’ve been discussing implementing an increased use of technology, ensuring women across Australia in all locations can attend meetings if they wish.
In addition, we’re excited to announce the introduction of a Young Women’s Council, which will provide advice and input to the National Board. These 18 women, who will be below the age of 30, will discuss and contribute in a real and meaningful way to the strategic direction, advocacy campaigns, policy platforms and objectives of the Y. It’s an essential part of our organisation to address and support the concerns of young women and provide them with a clear path to self-determination.
What’s next? We’ll be mapping out what the financial model of the new entity will look like as every association completes their due diligence. Keep an eye on our blog for more updates about the Y’s upcoming transformation!
